Robinson-Ransbottom TALL TUMBLER 5 1/2" Spongeware Blue Roseville Pottery RARE
Tall stoneware tumbler by Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Roseville, Ohio.
Blue sponging on the outside of tan tumbler. Condition is excellent with virtually no usage marks. No crazing, chips, or cracks. Very rare item. 5 1/2" x 3 1/8". Backstamp: 16 Oz Stoneware Glass R.R.P. Co. Roseville, Ohio U.S.A.
The Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Company was one of the very few plants that used local "native" clays, which are mined within a radius of 5-10 miles from the location in Roseville. Two kinds of stoneware clays are used: Top clay which lies above a vein of coal which is found in the area and contains much sand and, bottom clay which lies just below this vein of coal and contains very little sand. These clays are then blended to our formula for use in our manufacturing. The Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Company closed a couple years ago, which makes these pieces harder to find.
